Legend of Valhalla CBT Review

E-mail Print PDF

mainLegend of Valhalla Closed Beta Test started early last week, I've been keeping myself busy with this new title that's hot in Japan. A lot of you are probably wondering if this game is worth trying out, especially if you have played Le Ciel Bleu Online. It's been out for awhile now in Taiwan, but it's hard to play a game you don't understand, so I took a shot at the JP version. The first CBT felt like it was missing a lot of content, so I couldn't really get into the game even if I wanted to. I've prepared an mini review of the first Closed Beta Test along with 720p videos of right below so enjoy!

Solo Questing

Introduction

Legend of Valhalla is an upcoming 2D MMORPG with anime style graphics, artwork, voices, and gameplay. If you have played Le Ciel Bleu Online then you will have noticed that this game looks exactly like it. Except this game is more focused on playing alone due to it's guardian and Valkyrie like system. Legend of Valhalla is pretty much a complete copy and paste of Le Ciel Bleu especially when it comes down to questing, graphics, bgm, sfx, and etc.

Gameplay

There are four classes to choose from after you start your game, nothing special just the basic classes that you will find in most games, which are Fighter, Striker, Magician, and Archer. It's a point and click game, you can also use the arrow keys to move around but most of the time you're auto walking to areas so not much clicking and keyboard smashing until you're in battle spamming the skills you have on your two hotbars. Legend of Valhalla has a nice stat distribution system, I've always enjoyed games like this, reminds me of the times when I used to play Ragnarok Online. Each class has a huge set of skill tree's, unfortunately you won't be able to max them all so make sure you go down the right path!

Kiting a Boss

Valkyrie System

This is probably the biggest aspect of Legend of Valhalla Online, since you're a Valkyrie. You get to summon random heroes to fight with you. You can change your battle formations and it's AI, make them go afk and leech exp, aggro every mob, assist and buff you in battle, so far I haven't had much trouble with the AI. As you reach higher levels, you can summon more and more units. Once you reach level 30, you can start class changing your heroes into it's 2nd job profession. Summons can also be fused together, haven't tried it yet but it sounds pretty exciting. To obtain new units you have to pick up a certain crystal from a any monster drop and craft it into a soul stone, from there on you have a possibility of summoning a new hero to fight by your side permanently.

Level 15 Instance Boss

So what happens when they die? Nothing really, you can resummon them again just as long as you have the SP. However, you will have to pay 100 SP to revive a dead unit. Your SP gradually goes down as long as you have a summon out, the SP is based on how many summons you have out at once. So if you have three units out at once, your SP bar will decrease pretty fast. Earning SP is pretty easy though, just combo and kill a lot of monsters and you should have no problem keeping your summons out at all times. You can also use your SP to power up your character for a short period of time, it's very useful when you're fighting bosses.
